For the next few weeks, we will hear from people who have been in parish small groups for faith sharing. Last week I wrote about the new growth, like mayapples in spring. Just as the mayapples are growing, so, too, are your fellow parish members.
“I love the small group discussions. It is one of the reasons I joined the men’s group at the parish. Sometimes you think you are alone in the way you think or struggles you are having in life or faith. Then you sit down and talk with others that you don’t know and you find you are not alone. Other people in your parish are struggling with the same items you are. It also gives me a chance to listen and learn from others. I also meet other members of the parish that I may not know and that has blossomed into long term friendships. Small groups help us to open our minds up more and do things to help strengthen our faith that normally we may not do. I am very grateful my wife “pushed” me into the men’s group years ago. I know for a fact my faith is much stronger today because of it. [Studies like] Alpha and The Search are great ways to strengthen our faith by challenging us to look at our faith differently than we have in the past.”
