This past weekend we celebrated the Holy Trinity with the Gospel from Matthew where Jesus, through the Great Commission, sent out the Apostles into the world their graduation. On Pentecost we celebrate the coming of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles. They went out and started the Church - another graduation. Throughout our lives we have multiple graduations that push us on to the next phase in our life. Recently, I went to my cousin’s graduation for her Masters in Business/Accounting. We will soon be seeing graduations from Kindergarten, 8th grade, High School, and College.
Just as it was with Jesus, the Apostles, and Disciples so it is with us. Graduation is not an ending but a beginning. It is a time when we take what we have learned and really put it into practice and develop that learning to a greater degree whether that is more schooling, skill development, or even growth in our faith.
Graduation is not a time when we stop our growth and development. It is a time to foster it even further. The adage “Use it or lose it” has great truth when it comes to math, science, and faith.
This is a time to celebrate all the graduations of the kids we hold dear, to commend them for their achievements, and to encourage them to continue. It is also a time for us adults to take a look at what we have done since our last graduation not just in our careers, but in our personal lives with family and our FAITH.
