This Sunday is another special Sunday… we have a lot of those around Christmas. It’s the Celebration of the Baptism of the Lord. As Catholics, we are baptized to take away Original Sin which was imparted on us due to the disobedience of Adam and Eve. But Jesus is without sin… so why does He get baptized? There are four reasons that Jesus came to earth… one of them is to be our model of holiness. That means that Jesus shows us how to live our lives in a way that honors God. Everything Jesus did was and is about God… honoring His will and revealing His love for us. Jesus is the best way to understand the love God has for each and every single one of us. Out of love for us, Jesus said yes to the Father and died for our sins. When we are baptized, in a way, when the water is poured over our heads, we die… not really… but our Original Sin dies. It no longer exists. When the water is done being poured over our heads, it is like a resurrection. We are given the life and love of the Trinity (Father, Son and Holy Spirit) to live in our hearts. We are more alive than ever before. We have been claimed for Christ and claimed in His love. What a blessing!
