On my way to work this morning (the Monday before Thanksgiving), I heard the radio station talking about how I could listen to Christmas music 24/7. As this was happening I looked down the street and saw the Christmas decorations along the street. I have already heard people complaining about the Christmas decorations being in the stores “three” months ago (an exaggeration) and all that the season demands.
I guess I’ve been there and thought these things also, but as I looked down the street at the decorations, which were very nice, I thought about Christ. I thought about my Christmas homilies that have said that we need to bring Christ out during Christmas.
It would be nice if the decorations and music continued a while after Christmas. I was grateful this morning for the outward reminder of Christmas. The decorations might not have been religious, but even the secular reminders can lead me to my spiritual reminders to help me bring Christ out of Christmas and into my daily life.
