“Confession is an act of honesty and courage - an act of entrusting ourselves, beyond sin, to the mercy of a loving and forgiving God.”
St. Pope John Paul II
We all miss the mark sometimes. We all have wounds from living this life. The Sacrament of Reconciliation, also called Penance or Confession, was given by Christ to the Apostles – who in turn hands it on to the bishops and priests that follow. As He gives the ability to forgive sins in His name (meaning the priest acts as the spokesman for the forgiveness of Christ), Jesus tells the Apostles, “Peace” (John 20:21)! Peace is the fruit of the Sacrament of Reconciliation.
Here's an article from Ascension Press that illustrates the sacrament of reconcilliation and what it should look like for adults. Read it here.
Confessions are available weekly on the second and fourth Saturdays at 10AM or by appointment.
Please come to the East side church door under the canopy at St. Paul. Walk up to the canopy area, Fr. Dan will meet you outside under the canopy to hear your confession.
First Reconciliation can happen any time after Baptism. There are a few things needed to present: contrition or sorrow for the sin present, desire to be reconciled to God and the desire to do your best not to repeat the sin.
Second graders generally make their First Confession in the context of preparing for First Communion. Confession should precede Communion so that there isn’t blockage preventing grace from the Eucharist’s work to make us the person God has created us to be.
